Definition : Surgical knives designed for cutting and/or dissecting the thyroid gland. These knives typically consist of manual, sturdy, handheld instruments, usually with a flat handle. This facilitates grasping at the proximal end. They also may have a straight or concave blade that has a hole with sharp cutting edges along its center at the distal end. Thyroid knives are used mainly in surgical procedures intended to resect thyroid gland tissue and/or associated tumors.
