Definition : Synthetic dressings made of a semisynthetic hyaluronic acid, a carbohydrate component of the extracellular matrix. The carbohydrate component of the extracellular matrix that usually becomes a hydrophilic gel when it comes into contact with wet wounds. Hyaluronic acid dressings are intended to absorb wound exudates, to maintain a moist environment, and to promote wound healing; they are used mainly in wound management.
