Alarms, Foot Load
Definition : Alarms designed to activate audible (i.e., sound) signals when a pre-established limit (i.e., threshold) of weight-bearing (i.e., load) on a foot is reached. These alarms typically consist of a sensor placed in the shoe that continuously assess the weight placed on the foot using a dedicated sensor, a wearable electronic module including a sound alarm whose trigger may be adjusted to different levels of foot load (e.g., up to 45Kg/100 pounds), batteries, and interconnection cables. Lower limb weight alarms are intended for continuous assessment of patients suffering from lower limb and/or hip fractures or after prosthetic replacements; they may be also used during treatment of foot ulcers.
