Definition : Eye (ophthalmic) surgery punches designed to excise a segment of tissue (frequently in the form of a disc) from the trabecular meshwork of the eye. These devices typically are handheld, manual instruments with an integral sharp hollow tip at the distal end, operated by squeezing a two-part handle. Trabecular mesh eye surgical punches are used mainly to remove a portion of the trabecular area to facilitate drainage of the aqueous humor in patients suffering from glaucoma.
