Shelters

Definition : Facilities that can be easily transported and rapidly deployed to offer protection from the environment and temporary housing to people after natural disasters, industrial accidents, or otherwise affected areas. Shelters without special protection can be used also to protect victims of chemical, biological, or radiological disasters outside the contaminated areas. Shelters typically include a soft canvas with supporting columns, an electric power unit, and an environmental (e.g., heating, ventilation) control unit.
