Definition : Air-purifying respirators designed to prevent the wearer from inhaling specific gases and/or vapors. These respirators typically consist of a filtering facepiece (e.g., a mask) that includes disposable filters (e.g., cartridges, canisters) that should be replaced when their absorbing capacity is depleted. Gas air-purifying respirators do not protect against inhalation of airborne particles.
