Definition : Immunoassay reagents intended to perform qualitative and/or quantitative analyses on a body fluid sample (typically serum or plasma) to determine melatonin, an amine secreted by the pineal gland that acts on the hypothalamus- suppressing gonadotropin and growth hormone release, thus inducing sleep. Melatonin is also associated with the regulation of puberty and ovarian cycles. Its secretion is induced by the exposure to light.
