Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect antigens that permit the identification of strains of species of Trichomonas, a genus of flagellated protozoa. The only known human pathologic species of the genus is Trichomonas vaginalis; found in the vagina and the prostate. This parasite causes trichomoniasis, profuse vaginal discharge in females and urethritis and/or prostate enlargement in males.
