Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect toxins from or antigens or antibodies to Escherichia coli, the principal species of the genus Escherichia, family Enterobacteriaceae. E. coli is a common inhabitant of the large intestine in humans, but pathogenic strains cause diarrhea and may cause urinary tract infections, conjunctivitis, and septicemia.
