Catheters, Nasogastric

Definition : Catheters designed for insertion through the nose into the upper gastrointestinal tract. The proximal tip remains out while their distal tip is advanced into the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum. Nasogastric catheters are used for infusion (e.g., drugs, contrast medium), injection, and irrigation; they can also be used for biopsy by passing a biopsy forceps through their lumen.
