Catheters, Vascular, Occlusion, Permanent
Definition : Occlusion vascular catheters designed to interrupt blood flow in a vessel (i.e., embolization of an artery or vein) permanently. These catheters occlude the vessels by introduction of occlusion devices, such as detachable balloons, thrombogenic coils, or embolization microspheres. Permanent occlusion catheters are used in the treatment of spinal, cerebral, abdominal, and peripheral vascular lesions (e.g., inferior vena cava occlusion); they are also used for embolization of the uterine arteries in treatments such as arteriovenous malformations, carcinomas, ectopic pregnancy, and fibroid tumors.
