Analyzers, Point-of-Care, Whole Blood, Multianalyte
Definition : Point-of-care whole blood analyzers used to determine concentrations of clinically important analytes (e.g., cholesterol, glucose), electrolytes (e.g., sodium, potassium), and drugs of abuse; provide certain hematology values (e.g., hemoglobin concentrations); assay some therapeutic drugs (e.g., theophylline); and perform other clinical laboratory analyses. Most of these analyzers currently perform analysis with minimal technician involvement and with complete automation of the whole process, providing a standardized method of obtaining accurate and reproducible chemical concentration values. Multianalyte point-of-care analyzers are used as primary instrumentation in intensive care units, emergency departments, operating rooms, and animal research laboratories.
