Definition : Penile prostheses in the form of one or more rods implanted in the penis to provide penile tumescence and permit sexual contact. These prostheses typically consist of rigid or semirigid polymeric or silicone elastomer rods; some include metallic reinforcements. Rod penile prostheses are intended for patients who suffer from erectile dysfunction.
