Workstations, Healthcare, Medical Diagnostic Kiosk

Definition : Healthcare workstations designed to facilitate the diagnoses of common diseases by performing a set of pre-established physiologic tests. These units are placed in installations known as medical kiosks and the data and/or images obtained are then compared with the information available in the kiosk workstation. Medical diagnostic kiosk workstations typically consist of a mobile computerized unit (e.g., personal computers, laptops) that includes input devices (e.g., keypads, touch-screens), output devices (e.g., monitors, printers), and electronic memories and processors. The kiosk workstations also include as integral components physiologic measuring devices, monitors, recorders, and appropriate software; they may also include interfaces with healthcare information and/or telemedicine systems. Medical diagnostic kiosk workstations operated by the patient usually provide a limited set of tests; more elaborate diagnostic workstations operated by the healthcare staff provide a more comprehensive set of tests. In addition to healthcare settings these workstations may be available in pharmacies and other non-clinical locations.
