Definition : Serology reagents intended to detect antibodies to epidemic parotitis (mumps) virus, an RNA virus of the genus Paramyxovirus, family Paramyxoviridae. This virus is the etiologic agent of epidemic parotitis (also known as mumps), an infection characterized by swelling of one or both parotid glands that may also affect the pancreas, cause inflammation of the testes (orchitis), and affect the ovaries.
