Ophthalmic Foil

Definition : Thin plastic films (foils) designed to partially or totally block light when applied to an existing eyewear lens. These foils are manually cut, typically using scissors, from a thin plastic sheet in a shape that conforms to the interior of the lens and usually use only water for attachment. Ophthalmic foil is intended for prophylactic (e.g., to prevent lazy eye [amblyopia]) and/or therapeutic uses such as the treatment of double vision (diplopia) and in the absence of an eye's natural lens (aphakia).
