Simulators, Training, Intravenous Insertion
Definition : Simulators designed for use in training healthcare personnel in various intravenous device insertion techniques. These simulators include a model of a human upper extremity (i.e., arm) with an accessible replica of the vasculature. Anatomic models included in the simulators are made from foam, vinyl or other plastics which are molded to look and feel like human flesh. The anatomic models can be accessed with the same equipment used on actual patients. Instructors can use the model of the arms to demonstrate various medical techniques performed during intravascular line insertion procedures, including the insertion of various types of intravenous needles, cannulae, and catheters in normal and difficult to reach vasculature systems. Intravenous therapy anatomic models are available in different body types and sizes such as infant, child, adult, and bariatric arms.
