Definition : A physical barrier used to protect clothing, devices, instruments, or furniture from pathogens, heat, cold, light, chemicals, allergens, or other environmental exposures. Covers can also provide protection and a comfortable surface for patients. The barrier can be flexible or inflexible and can be made of a number of different materials, such as plastic or cloth (woven or non-woven), and can be absorbent or non-absorbent, depending on the intended uses. The cover can also protect the contents of hampers or laundry carts.
