Analyzers, Laboratory, Body Fluid, Glucose

Definition : Laboratory analyzers dedicated to measure glucose in body fluids (usually in plasma, serum, or urine, but some units perform tests on whole blood, cerebrospinal fluid, or saliva). Most dedicated glucose analyzers use amperometric methods (electric current is measured through an electrochemical cell while a constant electric potential is applied to immobilized enzyme electrodes); some others use chemical methods. Laboratory glucose analyzers use different methods than portable (point-of-care) glucose analyzers and measure a larger concentration range. Some of these analyzers may also be used in physician offices and clinical locations outside the central laboratory.
