Definition : Data management information systems designed to manage time and attendance of the healthcare facility staff. These systems typically consist of a combination of hardware and software. The hardware typically includes devices such as dedicated network servers, computers, scanners; the software consists of a dedicated software package including timecard software that processes employee data such as the complete history, competencies, licenses, and payroll data, as well as benefits. The software package frequently encompasses the entire hire-to-retire process. Time/attendance data management systems permit Human Resources departments to make appropriate decisions to reduce or eliminate problems such as excessive overtime and overstaffing; they may function as stand-alone systems or may be integrated in a hospital-wide financial data management information system network.
