Chromic Gut sutures are absorbable sterile surgical sutures composed of purified connective tissue (mostly collagen) derived from the serosal layer of beef (bovine) or the submucosal fibrous layer of sheep (ovine) intestines. They are packaged in a solution of 89% isopropanol, 10% water and 1% triethanolmine. Chromic Gut is treated with a chromic salt solution.
Mono-Dox is a polydioxanone (PDO) monofilament synthetic absorbable, sterile surgical suture prepared from the polyester, poly(p-dioxanone).
Monomid is a non-absorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of the long-chain aliphatic polymers Nylon type 6 or Nylon type 6/6. Monofilament Nylon suture may be either dyed black (logwood), dyed blue (FD&C Blue No.2) or white (undyed).
Monoswift is a synthetic absorbable monofilament surgical suture, composed of poly(glycolide-co-caprolactone) (PGCL). PGCL synthetic absorbable monofilament sutures are available dyed with FD&C violet #2 or undyed (natural). PGCL synthetic absorbable monofilament suture meets all requirements established by the United States Pharmacopoeia (U.S.P.), except for diameter.
Polybond is a braided polyester non-absorbable, sterile surgical suture, composed of polyethylene terepthalate. It is prepared from fibers of high molecular weight, long-chain, linear polyesters having recurrent aromatic rings as an integral component.
Polypro is a monofilament polypropylene nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture, composed of a strand of polypropylene, a synthetic linear Polyolefin. Polypropylene sutures are dyed blue.
Silk is a braided nonabsorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of an organic protein called fibroin. This protein is derived from the domesticated species Bombyx mori (B. mori) of the family Bombycidae.
Surgical stainless steel suture is a non-absorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of 316L, or comparable, stainless steel. Stainless steel suture is available as a monofilament.
Visorb is a coated, braided, synthetic absorbable surgical suture, composed of Polyglycolic Acid (PGA) and is available both dyed and undyed. When dyed, only FDA-approved color additives are used. The undyed suture is milk white in color. The suture is coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate
Visorb Quick is a fast absorbing, coated, braided polyglycolic acid, synthetic absorbable, sterile surgical suture composed of a 100% polymer made from polyglycolic acid. The undyed suture is milk white in color.
