Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP). Alkaline phosphatase is widely distributed in the body and is present in high concentrations in bone, intestinal mucosa, and renal tubule cells. Less high concentrations appear in the liver, leukocytes, and placenta. Increased values for alkaline phosphatase are found in all bone disorders, liver disease, and during the third trimester of pregnancy. Decreased values are found in hypophosphatasemia, hypothyroidism, pernicious anemia, and in dwarfs.

PRINCIPLE
The enzymatic sequence employed in the assay of Alkaline
Phosphatase is as follows:
Alk. Phos.
p-Npp H20 --------------- p-Nitrophenol H3PO4
p-Npp is colorless but p-Nitrophenol has strong absorbance at 405 nm.
The rate of increased absorbance at 405 nm is proportional to the
enzyme activity.

PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS
Analytical Range: 5-1000 IU/L
For alkaline phosphatase analyte using the Teco Alkaline Phosphatase Reagent on SYNCHRON CX® System, this method has been demonstrated to be linear from 5-1000 IU/L
Accuracy: Comparison study was performed on Beckman CX® System using 40 samples. Beckman Coulter Alkaline Phosphatase reagent was used to compare with Teco Alkaline Phosphatase Reagent. The results of this study in yield a correlation coefficient of 0.99 with a regression equation of y=1.1X -2.6.
