Cancer Antigen 125 (CA125) is a surface antigen associated with epithelial ovarian cancer. In serum, CA125 is associated with a high molecular weight glycoprotein. Published studies have indicated that elevated serum CA125 levels can be found in individuals with serious endometroid, clear-cell and undifferentiated ovarian carcinoma. The serum CA125 concentration is greater than 35 units per ml in 60 of women with ovarian cancer and 80 of patients with disseminated ovarian cancer. The serum CA125 is elevated in 1 of normal healthy women, 3 of normal healthy women with benign ovarian diseases, 6

Biomarker for ovarian cancer: CA 125II™ is the most widely used tumor marker worldwide for ovarian cancer and is indicated for use as an aid in the detection of residual ovarian carcinoma in patients who have undergone first-line therapy and would be considered for diagnostic follow-up procedures.

The CA-125 EIA test is primarily intended for use as a monitoring and screening test. An abnormal result (i.e., elevated serum CA-125 level) can indicate ovarian cancer and suggests the need for further clinical management. The serum CA-125 test appears to be a useful tumor marker for patients in clinical remission, following treatment. Post-operative serum CA-125 values that fail to return to normal, strongly suggest the presence of residual tumor. Tumor recurrence is often accompanied by a rise of serum CA-125 before progressive disease is clinically evident.

The DRG® CA 125 Enzyme Immunoassay Kit provides materials for the quantitative determination of the cancer
associated antigen CA 125 in human serum and plasma.
This assay is intended for in vitro diagnostic use only, except in the United States where it is intended for Research
Use Only.
The DRG® CA 125 ELISA is an assay for the detection of OC 125 reactive determinants on a heterogeneous, highmolecular-
weight (200 - 1,000 kilodalton) glycoprotein in serum. This glycoprotein was originally defined by the OC 125
monoclonal antibody established by Bast et al. (2)
The DRG® CA125 ELISA uses the M

The Calbiotech, Inc. (CBI) CA 125 ELISA used for the quantitative determination of the Cancer Antigen CA125 concentration in human serum.
PRINCIPLE OF THE TEST
The CA125 ELISA test is based on the principle of a solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The assay system utilizes a monoclonal antibody directed against a distinct antigenic determinant on the intact CA125 molecule is used for solid phase immobilization (on the microtiter wells).

For the determination of CA 125 assay values in serum
The FDI CA 125 II™ RIA is based on the use of the OC 125 antibody as the tracer antibody, which is available exclusively through FDI, and its licensed distributors. Performance characteristics of kits which employ the OC 125 system are not transferable to those diagnostic kits using different antibodies. The assay value for a given patient sample determined with different assays and from different manufacturers can vary due to differences in
