The lipoproteins can be categorized into four (4) distinctive groups, largely based on hydrated density – Chylomicrons; Very Low Density Lipoproteins (VLDL); Low Density Lipoproteins (LDL); and High Density Lipoproteins (HDL). HDL is responsible for the reverse transport of Cholesterol from the peripheral cells to the liver. Monitoring of HDL-Cholesterol levels is of clinical significance since an inverse correlation exists between the analyte and the risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis. Elevated HDL-Cholesterol levels are protective against coronary heart disease, while decreased levels

The Direct LDL Cholesterol Reagent is a two-part, liquid stable method for directly measuring LDL-C levels in serum or plasma. The method depends on the properties of a unique detergent which eliminates the need for any off-line pre-treatment or centrifugation steps. This detergent (Reagent 1) solubilizes only the non-LDL lipoprotein particles. The cholesterol released is consumed by cholesterol esterase and cholesterol oxidase in a non-color forming reaction. A second detergent (Reagent 2) solubilizes the remaining LDL particles and a chromogenic coupler allows for color formation. The enzyme

We manufacture calibration sera for a range of clinical chemistry analysers. Human based material is available in two levels for the calibration of clinical analysers, offering values for up to 39 parameters. All calibration sera is human based lyophilised serum available at two levels. Calibration sera is sent to 3000 laboratories and values are assigned from a consensus of results obtained.

Plasma lipoproteins are spherical particles that contain varying
amounts of cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids, and proteins.
The phospholipid, free cholesterol and protein constitute the outer
surface of the lipoprotein particle; the inner core contains mostly
esterified cholesterol and triglycerides. These particles serve to
solubilize and transport cholesterol and triglycerides in the
bloodstream.
The relative proportions of protein and lipid determine the density of
these plasma lipoproteins and provide a basis for their classification.
The classes are: very low density lipoproteins

The HDL and LDL Cholesterol reagents are compatible with fasting and non-fasting samples with no significant interference from Triglycerides up to 1000 mg/dL. For simplified sample processing, no pre-treatment is required and the direct measurement of serum or plasma specimens eliminates the extra time and costs associated with sample splitting. The reagents are ready-to-use liquid formulations available in two convenient kit sizes with Olympus bar-coded cartridges that allow on-board reagent management. Other features include 30-day on-board stability and 30-day calibration stability.

The Diazyme LDL-Cholesterol assay is a direct dual liquid stable reagent system which can be used reliably with fasting and non-fasting specimens. Reagent transfer is eliminated for most chemistry systems with a choice of convenient instrument specific packaging options including Roche Hitachi 917 series, Olympus AU (400/600/640/680), Beckman Synchron CX, LX and DXC. The assay utilizes Diazyme’s proprietary PVS\PEGME coupled technology which provides outstanding performance. The assay features a linear range of up to 250 mg/dL, intra and inter CV values 2.0 and less than 10 interference from

LDL Cholesterol (or “bad cholesterol”) is directly related to the risk of developing coronary artery
disease. A low HDL/LDL cholesterol ratio is also directly related to developing coronary artery
disease. Elevated LDL cholesterol is the primary target of cholesterol-lowering therapy, often
with drugs called statins.
