DIFLUCAN® (fluconazole), the first of a new subclass of synthetic triazole antifungal agents, is
available as tablets for oral administration, as a powder for oral suspension and as a sterile
solution for intravenous use in glass and in Viaflex® Plus plastic containers.
Fluconazole is designated chemically as 2,4-difluoro-α,α1-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)
benzyl alcohol with an empirical formula of C13H12F2N6O and molecular weight 306.3. The
structural formula is:
Fluconazole is a white crystalline solid which is slightly soluble in water and saline.

SPORANOX® is the brand name for itraconazole, a synthetic triazole antifungal agent. Itraconazole
is a 1:1:1:1 racemic mixture of four diastereomers (two enantiomeric pairs), each possessing three
chiral centers. It may be represented by the following structural formula and nomenclature:
(±)-1-(R)-sec-butyl-4-p-4-p-(2R,4S)-2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-

oral suspension. The structural formula is:
Voriconazole is designated chemically as (2R,3S)-2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-3-(5-fluoro-4-
pyrimidinyl)-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)-2-butanol with an empirical formula of C16H14F3N5O and
a molecular weight of 349.3.
Voriconazole drug substance is a white to light-colored powder.
VFEND I.V. is a white lyophilized powder containing nominally 200 mg voriconazole and 320
