The findings were consistent with a right-sided retinoblastoma, with concern for transscleral and optic nerve extension.
Given the findings and CT results, the patient was admitted for further evaluation. Upon further questioning of members of the patient's family, they reported feeling at times that the right pupil would "disappear" or "not be there," only to reappear later. They denied specifically the presence of a white or discolored pupil. There was no known family history of retinoblastoma or other childhood eye disease. OBJECTIVE:To summarize pharmacy database studies of persistence with ocular hypotensives and review the literature of adherence with 2 additional classes of medication—antihypertensives and antihyperlipidemics— comparing methods used to analyze adherence in the 3 treatment areas.
DATA SOURCES: A search of MEDLINE (1990–2004) was conducted, using search terms designed to identify English-language articles describing adherence or persistence with any of the 3 drug classes of interest.
