Designed as a simple screen test. The usual question for a reading test is: "What is the smallest (black) line you can read?" On the contrast card one adds the question "What is the smallest (grey) line you can read?" The difference between the two measurements will be obvious and can simply be expressed in "lines". Preliminary findings indicate a 2 or 3 line difference is normal.
Mixed high-contrast and 10 contrast
Unrelated simple sentences at 4th grade level
Serves as an educational tool to demonstrate the effect of contrast deficits to patients and family members.

Includes complete instructions and recording sheet
Uses 10 calibrated Contrast Sensitivity level with Acuity
Designed by: Dr. August Colenbrander
Conventional, high-contrast letter chart acuity captures only one aspect of visual performance. Low contrast acuity is equally important for activities of daily living, since most everyday objects have less than black-on-white contrast, are larger than the smallest letters seen on a letter chart and are seen at various intermediate distances.

The CSV-1000 is used clinically by eye doctors in over 45 countries to evaluate cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, contact lens performance, refractive surgery, etc.
In addition, the instrument has been selected for use in numerous multi-center trials for the evaluation of contrast sensitivity, ETDRS acuity, low contrast acuity and glare sensitivity. These studies include those for PRK refractive surgery, contact lens evaluation, LASIK refractive surgery, athlete visual performance, visual impact of pharmaceutical treatments, etc.
The patented CSV-1000 standardization insures that test

The CSV-1000S test face is widely used for in or out-of-office screenings and for cataract evaluation. This test presents standard visual acuity from 20/15 to 20/200, two rows of spatial frequencies (6 and 12 cycles/degree) and a real-world driver?s scene. The test is very useful for cataract documentation as it provides a standard acuity score, a functional acuity score and a real-world simulation.

The Functional Acuity Contrast Test (F.A.C.T. ®) is designed to measure low-contrast visual acuity. Contrast sensitivity is one aspect of functional vision that goes largely unmeasured by conventional visual acuity tests such as the Snellen chart (a chart of progressively smaller letters). Contrast sensitivity is one of the factors that most influences overall functional visual acuity. Without sufficient low-contrast visual acuity, individuals may have trouble driving, bicycling, and even walking in low-light conditions and other situations characterized by low-contrast lighting.
